Margaret Shearer, a regular bingo player from Glasgow, was the lucky winner of a £1 million Bingo Jackpot during a lunchtime bingo game held at the Mecca Bingo Club in Glasgow. Margaret, who was playing with her mother and regular bingo partner, lost her job at the McVitie’s factory only three weeks ago.

“It’s such an enormous amount that it’s difficult to grasp what it really means”, Margaret said. “I experienced hot flushes just before I started playing the bingo session, which I took as a sign that something was going to happen!” What happened was a life-changing prize that came a few weeks after laws were changed to allow such big prizes in bingo clubs.

“Margaret is superstitious and always carries a miniature Buddha figure in her handbag for luck,” the Manager of the Mecca Club, of which Margaret has been a member for 30 years, said. He also commented that while Margaret looked like the calmest person in the world, the rest of the players went completely wild for her.

Organizers of the Millionaire Bingo Game said this is the first time a player wins such a huge prize at a bingo club, but they expect it not to be the last one since the Millionaire Bingo Game was introduced to create a millionaire every 45 days.
